All Fresh, Coming Out of the Academy!

Red Bull Academy helps us discover amazing artists years after years. That’s nothing new. But here’s one you don’t want to forget.

Here’s a juicy interview I had prepared for you guys:

Julien (4MTL) (super cliche question, i know, but people need to know!): Where do you get your inspirations? We say everything’s already been invented, we’re only recycling old music trends. What are you adding to the music fashion?

Lunice: Yeah my inspiration practically comes from everything I see, feel, hear and taste. But to narrow it down to make any sense of this, I like to get really inspired by a certain genre then after a while I switch into another genre of music to get inspired from. Doing so really refreshens my mind and creativity, so I guess that’s where the “adding” of my own style comes in from mixing all the genres and sounds I’ve been inspired from and put it into one nutshell. As for what I’m adding to this new/old music fashion, I simply just add soul but not Soul as in the genre. Just the kind of soul where the listener can feel how I am not trying to just sound like any other just to get by as a producer. Hard to explain haha but I hope you know what I mean!

Julien (4MTL): Who is your favorite band/singer ever and why?

Lunice: Right now, The Knife. They’re such great artists and every song I hear from them I love because of its organic feel and soul they have in every song. Another big fave of mine is Ryan Leslie. His production is so slick, clean and overall super effective. As for an all time favorite, it’s impossible to say because my top fave list keeps changing almost every day haha. Oh! And I’m really digging this producer from Paris called Kool Klaps. His work is really uplifting and up-tempo without it being over the top. He’s most def a dude to check out!

Julien (4MTL): Where were you born? And whether the answer is here or not here, why do you like Montreal?

Lunice: I was born and raised in Montreal. This city has such a wide range of different music scenes happening all at once while I still get that vibe that unites us all in some way and that’s a trait that really made me fall in love with this city.

Julien (4MTL): Are you looking foward to working with other Montreal artists that you like/admire? If yes, who?

Lunice: Yesss! I’m already working with many other artists from Montreal! First off, I’m working on a track with Troy Dunnit for my solo EP entitled “Stacker Upper” to be released on LuckyMe records. And I’m also working on a song with this R&B singer called Keemo. The more I work with Montreal artists the more I realize how Montreal has a collossal number of extremely talented people. It’s wild!!!

Julien (4MTL): Do you feel like the “Neo” of the new experimental hip-hop style?

Lunice: Hahaha no way!!! I feel more like… Actually I don’t know what I feel haha so hard to tell. But I appreciate the question! :)
